“Ok I admit, I may not have been in my right mind earlier this morning. With lack of food, and stress, and waking up early… but come on guys!!! Can we keep him?!!!” I turned my most pitiful puppy-dog eyes to our gathered group. “Pleeeeaaaaseee!!!”
Q just glared at me. “No. Just no.”
“Jess, how are we supposed to take care of him when we can barely take care of ourselves?” Mer shook her head. “We just can’t right now.”
“Gah… I know…” I scratched the little guy under the chin. He trilled and closed his eyes in bliss. “But…”
“NO!!” I swear my hair blew in the sound blast.
“Right now we need to concentrate on what we are going to do.” Norara sighed. “We were just nearly beaten to a pulp. We need food and shelter and to figure out what is happening to us.”
“I got food covered! I found some berries that don’t taste half bad, right before I found this guy.” I piped in, and tossed my bag of berries into the circle. Thankfully I remembered not to use the one that held my little glowing orbs of power. Probably not good to eat those too often.
“Ok, as for shelter, I say we make use of the trees. Tree fort for the win!”
“Well now on to what the hell is going on.” Q cheerfully (cough) joined the discussion. Her head twitched to Nora. “You have a keyblade… how do you have a keyblade? I wanted to ask that a week ago, but, well, I WAS ALMOST DEAD!!”
“Well that is another question… you WERE almost dead a week ago! How in the world are you up and talking, let alone throwing sparks around?!” Norara countered. Norara’s attack was deflected. Q used RANT.
“How can keyblades even EXIST! They are supposed to be fictional.” You know its bad when she starts pacing. “ And Jess has magic orb things. And Mer is a rabbit.”
“HEY! No I’m not! I’m an elf! Like from Jak.” Mer glared gesturing to her oversized ears.
“No Fluffy! Not perches!!” I tried to grab the little gray fluffball as he jumped to reach them.

Chapter 15
Part 1/?
Things were crazy. Way too crazy. It was time for answers. Why was Mer an elf?
"I still say you are a rabbit," I replied after a very long and awkward pause.
"I am NOT," the rabbit said.
"I see. If you're not, then why do you have long ears and bounce?"
No response from the Mer front. I win. Is my prize a headache remedy? My head was pounding. The, very meager, rest I had gotten over the past day had done nothing to alleviate the pain. It hadn't done anything to make it worse either. Thank whatever for small gifts. I continued pacing on the spongy forest floor, the movement clearing my head from the fuzziness of the pain.
This world was gnawing at my sanity. Or was that Jess's fluffball? Either way.
"I want answers," I said, "but none of us have them. So what do we do?"
"We find out how YOU are up and moving," said Nora, leaning against a tree.
"Why?"
"Because by all rights you shouldn't be!"
"And you shouldn't have a giant door opener that can't exist, but now we're both stuck with what we've got. Where does it go when it disappears anyways?"
"I don't know. My heart? But you're avoiding the question."
Mer butted in to the budding argument, "I have an answer."
"Oh oh! What is it? Is it 42? Is it snodgrass? Is it- NO! Bad Fluff! Finger not food. Have a berry." Jess stuffed one of her collected berries in the bird creature's beak. The bird gagged, if you could call it that, then peeped woefully.
"Jess, I think its a meateater." I told her.
"Yeah, I know that. But he's just so hungry, and we don't have any meat or anything, and I thought 'well maybe I'm wrong and he's an omnivore' and-"
"Okay okay, we get the picture." Nora stopped the Jess ramble. "We need more food. Not that the berries are bad, but they aren't enough."
"Yes. Meat. For Fluff."
"Oh great you've named it." I said flatly. "We'll need water, too"
"As I was saying!" Mer shouted. "Gods you all have the attention span of a group of three year-olds. As I was saying, I have an answer."
"Wh-"
"Nope! Let me finish!"
We all shut up quickly. An angry Mer was a dangerous Mer, and I did not want another trip though the cosmos via dark portal any time soon. I presume the others felt similar. Fluff kept peeping. Jess gave it belly scratches. I didn't know bird things could purr, well more of a coo. It looked very soft, like a pillow.
"Nora has a Keyblade. I'm an ELF, like from the Jak games. Both Nora and I have powers from games." Mer continued. "I'm sure you two have powers from games as well."
"Why?" I asked, "would we have powers from games, of all things? Why not just mutant powers, or comic books? Jess and I could do the comic book thing. Your evidence is all circumstantial. Argh, why am I even entertaining this thought?"
"I don't know that. And you watch way too many crime shows"
"Hmph. I still say you're a rabbit."
Mer growled at me, and I swear her eyes turned black and her body flickered in a red glow for a fraction of a second. No one else commented.
"OK. Now that we've figured that out, Fluff and I are going hunting." Jess got up and began walking off back down the trail she made while hunting berries. Fluff climbed up to her shoulder and sat, tail curled around her neck, cooing.
"We should do a buddy system, I'm going with you. Nora, Mer, you two look for water. Meet up here before it gets dark. Remember its gets dark quick since we're under the canopy."
Sorry it took so long. Kinda dialogue heavy. Next part should be soon.

Chapter 15 Part 2/2
The first hour or so was spent wandering around the jungle-like woods aimlessly. Oh, and blowing up trees. For fear of getting lost I had come up with the bright idea to mark our path by charring trees. Unfortunately the trees didn't take so well to shock treatment and proceeded to catch fire as we went. Watching things burn seemed to help my headache, or perhaps only distract from it.
"Stop it, you're scaring Fluff," Jess gestured to the bird thing calmly perched on her shoulder.
"I'm also scaring any prey animals away, but I need to figure this out. Are the trees naturally more combustible here, or are they metallic in some way?"
"Or are you putting too much power in?"
"Or am I putting too much power in? That might be the case. Although, I am only using the level I used against that first Rek. At least, that's what it feels like."
"Use less, please. I'm hungry and we left the berries with Mer. And I don't see any more around here. And Fluff won't help find anymore." The bird thing chirruped happily at the end of Jess's long string of complaints.
"Okay I'll try to use less."
Next attempt only charred the tree.
"Yeah, I need to use less. But now lets see how much I can put into the tree."
"No."
The second hour gave us more trees.
"I spy something green."
"Third tree to your left, Jess."
"No, that one's emerald, not green."
"I'm sorry, I'm not a shade of green connoisseur."
Third hour had us heading back down the path we came, since we didn't actually know when sunset was, following charred trees and broken foliage. At some point Jess had become convinced that attacking a tree would help. It did help. Fluff was now stuffed with bugs, at least they looked like bugs, from a newly kicked open log.
"At least one of us has food. Hey maybe when he's fat enough we can cook him."
"No! Not my Fluffy!" Jess cuddled the fatter bird thing. It cooed and nuzzled her face, smearing bug guts all over it. "Hey, Q, can you come over here for a minute?"
"You are not wiping your face off on my shirt. Again."
A rustling came from the forest to our right. We both ducked down and held very still. Jess shushing Fluff, who completely ignored everything and was falling asleep after a full belly. A dark brown object wandered from the brush. It was about four feet tall at the shoulder and was covered in green stripes and blotches. Its four legs were clawed, two toes each, but looked like they were only made for walking on rough terrain. The angled head sniffed into the tree's base near its roots, before coming back up and chewing something vaguely grey-brown.
"I think its eating mushrooms. Herbavore or omnivore, I can't see its teeth from here to know for sure." Jess whispered.
The angled head looked over quickly at the noise, still chewing. Its eyes were spaced on either side of its head, although it had large yellow bumps in a ridge traveling from its nose area up to its forehead.
"Prey animal."
"Yep."
"Should we try to take it?"
"We have nothing to cut it up with. And I don't wanna kill it."
"What about your shovel thing?" I asked.
"Its back at camp."
Face meet palm. Ah yes, a happy reunion. Its been way too long. Oh, not long enough.
"Okay, here's the situation. I'm hungry, you're hungry. Nora's hungry and angry Mer is hungry. Berries ain't gonna cut it, and this is the first thing we've seen all day besides your glorified bug vacuum. Who ate all the insects, or chased the rest in a game of 'let's squish the moving thing.'"
The deer thing had sniffed around a little more, before suddenly jumping off past us into the unexplored depths of the woods.
"Well its gone now. Now we don't have to kill it."
"Jess, I am going to hurt you."
A shout from the path. Were there more people here? No, it was only non-angry Mer running down our trail.
"Mer! Did you find water? Did you see the deer thing? Wasn't it cool?" Jess greeted the rabbit.
"Uh, nice path guys."
"Yeah. Q got a little zap happy about an hour ago."
"And Jess got smash happy. I only ended up singeing a few things."
"And blowing up one tree. I tried to stop her, I really did. But she got her hand all glowy and then BOOM."
"Yes, but only one. I needed to test a hypothesis. Although one is hardly enough proof."
"Ri~ght," Mer replied, eyes slightly glazed over at our conversation, "Nora and I found something. We were walking along then all of a sudden her keyblade appeared, and this tree started glowing. Then after she pointed her keyblade at the tree and there was a big metal door just sitting there in tree. There's stuff in there. Food and water, we think. Jars and containers anyways, some of them slosh, but I'm getting off topic. You have to some see this."
Well, it had to be better than butchering our own meat. Right?
This is bad and lame, but I've got some set up for stuff. It seems contrived right now, but I think you guys can come up with the rest of the mystery of why it might be there.

Chapter 16 1/2
My stomach growled. Nora cut a small portion of bark off the closest tree, my mind wandered far enough to wonder how exactly that key cut. Not that it mattered, my ax thing would have worked just as well but when I tried I cut into the actual flesh of the tree. I didn’t see much point in cutting the possibly thousands of years old tree not when we could mark our trail without butchering the poor things. Another growl. At least we would have most likely, with slight possibility of not, been fed back on soot world. I took a deep breath. Well at least we would die with a nice view here. Growl.
“Oh shush” I murmured to my stomach. Nora glanced at me.
“Alright there Mater?” she twirled her blade. We had discussed the wisdom of summoning that nice little key for the first hour while I maimed trees. Well hours later still no creeping shadows not even any homicidal urges.
“Yep, my belly is angry with me but I am rather enjoying the view.” I shrugged walking on. “So… what do you think is going on?” I asked after a few steps of silence. Nora glanced back at me wearing a funny expression.
“Honestly, I have no idea. This kind of thing… I keep thinking I am going to wake up.” She sighed. “Maybe… maybe the games we play, the books we read, maybe they all are stories of places that really exist or maybe by creating them they come to existence and in some great cosmetic event they collided, mixed, dragging us with them. Maybe this is some joint dream experiment or maybe we are dead and this is our minds moving on into the afterlife. Maybe God is testing us. I know you don’t believe Mater, but well.” She gestured to my ears, I laughed. “Oh stop, you asked I answered.”
“I really hope that we don’t wander into any of my stories!” I laughed harder. “I fear my characters would rebel against the cruelty I put them through!” She grinned at me and then looked around.
“Want to check and see if you can locate any streams?” she nodded to the lowest branch. I smiled and double jumped. These trees had an odd amount of low branches for such a thick forest, it made me wonder if they required less sun light or if it derived its energy from elsewhere. I grabbed a branch and swung myself up higher. I climbed my way out of a fear of heights long ago, if I weren’t so hungry and thirsty I would probably have enjoyed myself. This tree’s off white bark was deservingly rough, like fine grained sand paper in fact like a birch you could peal layers off, beneath was a near black and smooth under layer, it was like glass so I was careful to not step in parts that were pealed. I reached as high as I trusted the thinning branches. A sea of green and white meet my gaze. It was beautiful. Far off there seemed to be a patch that thinned there was also more undergrowth; a clearing or if we were lucky a lake or river. I climbed down quickly ignoring the fatigue from hunger.
“Any luck?” Nora had been messing with her key blade there were cuts in the moss.
“Maybe a stream up ahead, or a clearing. It’s difficult to say. It seems kind of far, I am a little worried about making it there and back before night fall but-“ I didn’t get to finish because the loosely held keyblade jerked up, glowing slightly.
“What the-“there was a… well a ding noise, or maybe a chime, and a circle of light emanated from the edge creating a white beckon that shot forward. I turned to see where it was pointing and it hit a tree big enough to hide a hummer. There was a similar ripple of light that shimmered off a metal door in its trunk. Wait. Why the hell is there a door? A soft click later and we were left looking dumb founded.
“There is a door there right?” I asked, scratching my head.
“Yep.”
“Ha… want to open it?” she shrugged, moving forward as cautiously as anyone would when a door just appeared out of a key. Her hand ran along the smooth arched handle and she pulled it open. Inside was not nearly as dark as it should have been considering it was inside a tree, in fact it almost seemed to give off light that was reflected off of countless glass or crystal jars. My stomach growled in anticipation. “You don’t see that every day.” I murmured.
“Well, that’s convenient. Too convenient actually…” she looked around uneasily.
“I am going to find the others, they can’t be too far, would you rather come with me or stay and watch the place?” She contemplated visibly for a moment.
“I will stay, I can defend myself against anything worse than a horde of shadows, if one of those show up I will be sure to scream nice and loud.” She gave me a two fingered salute then went to looking at the weird occurrence.
“I’ll be quick.” I took off running in the direction I knew out comrades to be heading.
** “The way I see it we have two choices, try it and hope for the best or ignore it and keep searching.” The ever wise Q-sama stated when we reached the door in the tree again. We all looked to the darkening surroundings. Jess stopped at camp and got anything we left there which was a pile of dry wood and her shax.
“My vote is staying here setting up a new camp and eating and drinking what we have so if we do run into trouble we have energy. If its poisoned then well it was a good life!” Jess shifter the fluffy bird that slept in the nook or her arm. We looked at each other. “Nora?” she sighed, running her hand through her hair then glanced at her keyblade.
“Well this is supposed to be an object of light… I don’t think it would summon something that would kill us…” They looked at me and I shrugged.
“I am hungry and tired anything that involves sleeping in the end sounds fine to me and I am inclined to agree with Nora. Now if we found food at the end of the rifty things that dark Mar makes I would hesitate but…” I shrugged again.
“Alright, let’s set up camp and see what we have in here.”
A short motivated time later a fire was made, patches of moss were declared and we each had two jars, one full of a clear scentless liquid (water we hoped) and another full of different colored materials. I had a jar of what looked like dried meat, maybe some fruit but it smelled like spiced meat and looked like jerky. Jessica clamed s sweet smelling jar of something with the consistency of apple sauce but a pale red, Nora had some plant that was still crisp and cool to the touch that looked a little like if a cucumber and celery mated and smelled a little like strawberries. Q claimed another jar of what seemed like a grain, like boiled rice because it was soft but not sticky.
“Here is to wishing poison control didn’t vanish with the rest of the world!” I help up a small piece of whatever it was I had and took a small bite. It was chewy like jerky, salty and had that meat taste to it just not any meat I had had before. I didn’t go into convulsions so I took another bigger bite. The flavor wasn’t outstanding but the spice helped settle my hungry stomach. I passed the jar on to Nora who set next to me. “Its kinda good.” All of it was, it filled out stomachs and the clear stuff was in fact water that quenched our thrust. Even Fluffy enjoyed the grain and meat (he wouldn’t even look at the other stuff which tasted like nothing really comparable to anything from home but was all rather good).
At least I could cross starvation off the list.

Part 2/2 (atlast)
“So where do you think all this stuff came from?” I asked Jessica as we moved jars around in the little room. She stopped for a moment looking at the sun lit jars running her hand along the wood of the shelves.
“I really don’t know. It had to come from somewhere though because-“ I never found out why exactly it had to come from somewhere because a little red fluffy ball leapt from behind the jar or little green orbs I was rationing. I let out a surprisingly loud cry dropping the jar and falling back.
“Blasted little!” I sprung up chasing after the cackling (okay not really cackling but was making a noise d*mn near close) bird.
“Having fun are we?” Nora asked as the bird darted up a tree and I leapt and swung myself after it.
“Really not!” I called back.
“When you are done playing up there we should probably make some kind of long term plan.” Q called up.
“You mean we aren’t staying in the nice forested area with no known predators and a food supply that could last us about half a year with care?” Her sister called from the doored tree. I could practically hear Q’s eyes roll.
“And what do we do when the heartless show up? No I think we are better off just moving along.”
“Where?” I asked, having a hard time keeping my voice free of dislike. “And how? Mind you I have things a little better under control when not exhausted and scared witless but I am all for delaying the shredding of reality.”
“Mater I am sorry but I agree with Q, we didn’t do so great with our last little encounter and that was when we had a city of fighters with us. I would rather get out of here before anything comes creeping our way.”
“We should at least try to and find a way to lock this world, prevent the heartless from getting in.”
“Mer that is assuming that this place follows the happy little logic of a video game meant for kids! For all we know the key holes that are present in each world doesn’t exist!”
“Danielle. I have foot long ears and turn into a purple daemon, Nora can summon a overly large key that frees the hearts from creatures made of darkness, your sister summons fire with little marbles, and you survived a contact with live wires and can now manipulate electricity. I think a keyhole is the most likely of-“
“GUYS! You need to come and look at this!” Jessica poked her head from the door. We looked at her and she ducked back in after approaching we saw her kneeling in the back of the room a pile of broken glass next to her. “When Fluffy scared Mer she dropped a jar, I was cleaning it up and noticed the green stuff all rolled to the back and I found this!” She scooted the rest of the large jars on the floor aside to show a five foot by five foot door with an old fashion iron lock and knob.
“I wonder if the key will open it?” Nora murmured. Jess shook her head.
“It’s not locked.” She turned the knob and the little door swung open letting light shine down a small flight of stairs. “So… can we go in it?” She looked at us eagerly. I wasn’t paying any attention because I had already left the little door and walked on the other side of the tree. The angle of the stairs would mean they would have to stick out from the base of the tree but there was nothing but lush moss.
“Where does it go?” I asked. “I mean I don’t think it’s the best idea to walk blindly into the darkness.”
“Well that’s just it I don’t think it is darkness. Well it’s obviously dark, but it’s not the darkness. Wait I mean… Umm it’s not… oh you know what I mean.” Nora looked curious, then irritated, then confused then irritated again.
“How do you distinguish dark from the darkness?” I asked after a moment.
“Put a ‘the’ in front of it?” Jess suggested.
“I think she means its actual presence? As in sensing, feeling, seeing.” Q said.
“No, I meant in saying it, I can feel the difference but was wondering how you distinguish it verbally because darkness is dark but dark in the simple sense is also dark and you can have darkness without it being the darkness.” Nora and Jessica laughed; Q just rubbed her forehead in obvious frustration.
“Idiots… I swear I am surrounded by fools…” She muttered until our giggles subsided.
“We should go.” Nora said after a few deep breaths and pointing to the door. “We have no idea where it goes but I have the distinct feeling that there is nothing left in this world for us to find.” I started to protest. “No, hear me out. I don’t feel anything else here. Nothing. I don’t think there is a key hole. I don’t think we can protect these worlds in any other way then moving on as fast as possible before the heartless can find it.” We stared at each other for a moment.
I wanted to ask what our purpose was then. If we weren’t supposed to save the worlds from the darkness and the creatures it summons then why were we running from world to world?
“Okay, okay, let’s see where the rabbit hole takes us.”
With that it was less than five minutes we (little fluffy bitey birdy included) stepped down the dark (but not evil creepy darkness). “I can’t see a thing” I muttered when it was my turn.
“Oh here.” Q shook her arm slightly and blue electricity emanated from it.
“That’s handy…” I heard Jess say from the front “though it does make the fact I can see in the dark that much less cool.” I laughed and reached out my hand to walk with it against the wall, taking one last glance at the lush green work before focusing on where I was walking. The wall felt like compacted dirt, cold, uneven, but it did not crumble at my touch in fact it was almost smooth. We walked in silence for a short while when I heard the sound of something metallic being kicked. Nora stopped moving.
“I kicked something! Bring the light over here, it couldn’t have gone far!” Q obeyed but it was Jessica who noticed the little silver lump on the floor. Jess was closest so she picked it up.
“It’s a chain,” She held it up for us to see and handed it to Nora.
“It feels warm.” Nora breathed with a sense of awe. “Do you think…” She held out her keyblade, and raised it so she could look at the three circles at the end of the chain with striking similarities to the one we just found. “I think it’s a key chain!”
“But aren’t they supposed to have a charm?” I asked but it was Q who answered.
“Didn’t you take a tooth from the Rek heartless?” Nora nodded and pulled the blue stripped fang from her pocket. They glowed bright enough for me to shield my eyes then in her hand she held a new keyblade.
This one looked much more like a battle ax then a key to be honest. It was about the same side but a deep blue with stripes similar to the Rek’naghs from the other world. The colors faded into a rusty then more vibrant red towards the end of the key blade and the hand cover part looked like braded blue grass though was metal. At the end swung a silver chain and tooth.
“Awesome.” We chimed together and then as if the hallway was waiting for that second a door like the one we entered through materialized just a little down the way.

The Darkness. Why were they asking me to describe it? Oh how to describe something from a game in which everything from everywhere was some sort of metaphor or an analogy from one man’s genius of 2D animation and the Japanese insanity. It was a feeling – literally. Someone’s ill intent, anger, frustration, jealousy, hatred, rage - all manifested in one great force. How it did this, like hell I describe the feeling. At least Yoda had midichlorians to describe a disturbance in the Force- like a distribution of waves in a natural flux. I just had the feeling of hairs standing up on the back of my neck. Maybe that was the best way to describe it though. Well, maybe not in case of induced laughter, but it was really more or less feeling someone’s ill intent. Oh how to say it… It was like summoning the Keyblade – I couldn’t describe how it came and went. It more or less came and went out of my own will. Though what type of science could induce and describe something as alien as magic. Honestly. I shook my head, searching the horizon line of blue light that was radiating off of Q’s electricity. The tunnel just seemed to extend on and on. We walked in silence for the most part, though Jessy’s new found fluff ball had woken up and now was squeaking timidly on her shoulder in a confused clatter. Poor thing. It probably wasn’t used to small dark spaces. For that matter, I couldn’t imagine that any of us were, seeing how this tunnel could have made anyone a bit claustrophobic. Oh well, at least it was a straight shot. The new found blue and red blade was still in my hand, as I tried my hardest not to fidget with it. I wanted to run my hands over every detail, wanted to take in the change and beauty of the new shape it had taken. An extension of a person – or in this case a behemoth hyena/cat monster from another world. I pondered just what strength it had – wither the blades design was geared towards magic or assaulting attacks. Ooooh did I just want to play around with it. Give a child a shiny new toy, and keep her busy for hours~ “How long do you think this goes on for?” Q finally said, making me shrug. “Who knows, but in worse case scenario, our bunny here would probably be able to pick up any sounds that would be trying to sneak up on us,” I said with a smirk, not helping the temptation. Mer growled. “Come to think of it, how long have we been down here?” Jessy perked up, the fluff ducking into her hair for some type of security. “Half an hour at most,” Q guessed, straining her eyes forwards. I paused for a moment, wondering how long this hike was going to last. I couldn’t speak for the others, but the thought of walking forever in an endless abyss was an eerie thought. “How long do you think before we should turn back?” “Turn back?” “Yeah. I mean we don’t exactly know where this tunnel is going to let up.” Q raised an eyebrow at me. “Weren’t you the one who wanted to come down here?” “Yeah but I didn’t think this hole was that long… and what if we get stuck down here?” “It’s a straight shot so we’re not going to get lost down here. And besides,” Q started before holding up a small pack. “I grabbed some of the jars from the tree while you guys were giggling uncontrollably.” “Is that a bag of holding?” Mer asked with a raised eyebrow, promptly earning a shrug back. Either way, at least having supplies with us was a little more comforting. “So back to the theory…” Jessica started again, managing to kick a small pebble at her foot down the tunnel. “Say we did manage to somehow land in a video game. You two are kinda obvious what about Q and I?” Mer and I shared a look, before glancing back to the sisters. What games could describe orbs of light and static electricity that could even make Zeus envious? “Know of anything who’s characters are based off of lightning elementals?” I asked the others. Mer shook her head, “Not unless you count board games, but Dungeons and Dragons sounds like a stretch even to me.” “And we can probably count World of Warcraft out seeing how you refuse to play it,” I continued looking to Q’s arms as the blue lightning seemed to almost ripple on her skin. In the games the Shaman had similar lightning attacks, but they were also elemental base with nature too – not just lightning. Plus there were no totems too so… Q shook her head, “I really don’t see why we’re still going on this topic.” The scientist in her was still looking for answers, BEYOND the supernatural, which was all too obvious and the easy way of explaining it. “Curiosity and boredom while passing time walking down a dark tunnel,” Mer said promptly. “You don’t think that could be Force Lightning?” I offered. Q looked at me flatly, obviously annoyed. “It’s the wrong color. And if I were a Jedi, where’s the light saber I can run you guys through with?” “Hehe, Q’s maaaad,” Jessy started before raising a hand, making the small bird squeak out. “So what about me? What could glowing orbs be from?” That was the question – what WEREN’T they from? Power balls of magic- orbs of light were the simplest way of describing any source of magic. People didn’t question it that way. Continuing to walk, I shook my head trying to make a list; Dragon Balls, different Pokemon attacks, Castlevania – hell, most games use orbs as a health system don’t they? They were easy to render out that way. Even the munny dropped from the Heartless were just bouncy yellow and blue orbs – but nothing that only sprouted fire. It was then it hit me- literally- walking straight into a wall in the darkness, leaving a welt on my forehead. “….I think I found the exit.” Way to watch were you’re going Nora. Lifting a hand up, letting the light pass over the door better, Q stepped forewords before reaching for the handle. She jittered it before twisting the knob and pushed forwards. The sound of stone scraping against stone echoed from the door, before a flood of a strange blue light flooded the tunnel. We all stopped, turning our eyes from the light, eyes dilated from being in the dark for so long. Q paused for another moment before pushing the stone door fully forwards. We stood there blinking, as the tunnel had opened up into a vast cave. The walls, ceiling and floor were covered in glowing blue stones. Crystals that radiated in their own eerie light, refracting and reflecting in their own light, illuminating the cave. Stepping into the chamber, Mer looked about, eyes wide taking in the sight. “It’s beautiful… How many years do you think it must have taken for these to form?” “No clue, Mater,” I said looking about the room, before my eyes caught a massive pillar of crystal that supported the farthest wall of the chamber. Suddenly the Keyblade in my hand lifted. It lurched in the pillar’s direction, growing hot to the touch. I tried to pull it away, but the blade did not move. It hung in midair, pointing the way. “What the-” “Do you think it’s a Key Hole?” Jessy said looking in the same direction. “I don’t think so. But whatever it is it’s made up its mind about it,” I offered, before taking a step forwards, the Key almost pulling me along with it, like a dog pulling someone along on a leash. “If an inanimate object can do that-” Q started again, but dropped the subject again as the Key continued to drag me away from the others. The pillar was more so a formations of crystals that connected the ceiling, wall and the floor – at least 15 feet of blue crystals that jutted out from the walls in an array of colors and white light. It was strange, the closer I got to the pillar, the warmer the Key felt. Not like it was about to burn me or anything, just that it almost felt…. Happy. Like it had reached some goal from this mass of glowing rock. Like a massive power source or- I squinted at the stone. Beneath the sharp lines of crystal I started to pick out an outline of shadow. I froze, staring. The outline masked an older face, crossed limbs over a chest, almost curled into a fetal position. Wispy hair glowed like white tendrils of smoke within the frame of the stone. The others caught my look of shock. “Nora?” “There’s someone in the…” The pair of eyes beneath the crystal opened. ( for the crystal chamber, i just have something like this in mind)

It can’t possibly get any worse right? We’ve gone through the bad, nearly got our butts chewed off by Rek’ na…mathingies (I’ll remember the name someday..), been arrested and caged by the natives, got to a paradise with no sign of food. Things can’t possibly get any weirder of course. We have the awesome unbelievable GODLY POWERS (TO RULE THE WORLD) of video game heroes (or so I hope), we have been transported through worlds by my bunnified friend, we have been through more fighting and seen more blood than an action movie. And now. Now, when we finally have food, and are healed(-ish) and relatively safe, a rock has to go and stare at us. Now its not that I MIND rocks staring (for all you rocks out there), I MEAN they have every right to stare if they want to, but did they HAVE to do it today? Really?
“Rocks aren’t supposed to have eyes right?” I asked. “I mean you guys didn’t see any rocks upstairs staring at you, did you?”
“No. There… there is someone IN there.” Nora replied, pointing. “Look you can see the hair, and the rest of the body if you look past the edges of the crystal.”
Oh great, not a rock, a person. I don’t know if that is weirder or less weirder.
“Do you think it can see us?” Mer waved her hand slowly in front of its face. With the edges of the crystal obscuring the face it was hard to tell if its eyes were following the motion or not.
“Well it did open them when we got close, so I think it’s safe to assume it is aware that someone is in front of it.” Q held her hand to her chin as she examined the glowing crystal man.
“In ANY case I don’t think crystal people stuck in rocks that glow is a sign of ANYTHING good. I mean have you seen all those sci-fi and fantasy shows? Usually when something is stuck in something, it’s for a good reason.” Fluff squeaked in protest as I waved my arms wildly.
“Well there are an equal amount where they are stuck in there because of some plot from the evil entity” Mer pointed out. “And Nora’s keyblade reacted to it, and not in a “I’m going to destroy you” kind of way. That has to mean something.”
“Point taken. But I still don’t like it. It looks radioactive. I don’t know of any crystals that glow.”
“ There are chemicals that glow though, maybe it’s a reaction. But where it would get the physics physics physics phys-physics.”
“Well the fact that you are debating about this when you use orbs to power yourself and you use lightning that manifests out of your body is hilarious.”
“GUYS! FOCUS! PERSON IN STONE! WHAT ARE WE DOING ABOUT IT?!” Mer rage. It’s a scary thing. Especially now that she has two foot ears and can tear us limb from limb.
“Um… well I suppose I could try to break him out with the keyblade somehow… but that might injure him.”
“Perhaps just try touching the keyblade to the stone. Usually when it unlocks things it doesn’t do so with violence, at least in the game.” Q shrugged.
“I would have thought when it dragged me over it would have done whatever it was going to do, but its worth a try.” Nora walked closer to the crystal, considered it for a minute, then summoned her new Keyblade and touched the tip to the multifaceted side near the rock persons chest. A noise like an F-15 flying over ricocheted off the walls and Nora was flung from the crystal across the room to the opposite wall.
“NORA?!” We all spun around in shock.
“Ouch.”
“Are you ok?”
“ Tell the lady I don’t want any llamas until Wednesday.” Nora muttered from the floor.
“I think she’ll be ok.”
It took her a few minutes to come to her full senses, but soon we were sitting in a circle, Nora holding her still aching head, trying to decide what to try next.
“Great. All we need is for it to start monologuing to us in our minds in some deep mysterious voice.”
[GOOD. YOU HAVE COME.]
“What the?! You just had to say it didn’t you?!!!” I shouted.
I looked at the crystal encased person’s mouth, it didn’t look like it was moving. Stupid mind control stuff.
“What do you mean? What do you want from us?” Nora summoned her keyblade again, probably more on instinct than the thought that she could use it.
[IT WILL BE EXPLAINED IN TIME. WE ARE PLEASED YOU HAVE ARRIVED.]
“You said that already!!”
A shadow seemed to move out of the corner of my eye, and I swung to face it, my adrenaline raising to new levels. “Guys! I think there is something else in here!”
[CALM YOURSELVES. YOU ARE SAFE HERE. FOR NOW.]
“That’s what they always say!!! Before they tear you limb from limb!”
[CALM YOURSELVES OR WE WILL DO IT FOR YOU]
That didn’t sound good. We all glanced at each other. Best to do what they said, not that there was any other choice.
The shadow moved again. All of us saw it, as it climbed onto the crystal next to the imprisoned creature and stepped out into the light it gave off. It resembled a cross between a monkey and a squirrel, short limbs, a long prehensile tail and short ears. But there was something wrong about it… very wrong. Where its face should have been was an empty cavernous hole that seemed to go on forever.

Chapter 19
[WELCOME TRAVELERS. WE ARE PLEASED YOU HAVE ARRIVED.]
"Do they really need to say that every time another shows up?" I complained after the 8th or so faceless horrific abomination had showed up. My headache had returned after a brief respite after our meal the previous night.
"I don't know but their staring is getting unnerving." Jess replied.
"How can you tell they're staring? They have no faces!" Nora fired back,. She looked back at us briefly, before turning back to watch another void faced thing fade into existence.
[WELCOME TRAVELERS. WE ARE PLEASED YOU HAVE ARRIVED.]
"I just know."
"I wish they'd shut up."
"Me too."
[WELCOME TRAVELERS. WE ARE PLEASED YOU HAVE ARRIVED.]
Mer exploded. "We get it already! We are travelers! We have arrived! Get on with it."
"You forgot the 'They are pleased!'"
"Argh!"
[WELCOME TRAVELERS. WE ARE PLEASED YOU HAVE ARRIVED.]
Maybe there was something in one of the random jars I had collected that was some sort of painkiller. I opened the bag and started rummaging through it. Nothing but jars and jars and jars of unidentifiable stuff.
"How many jars did I put in this thing? I know it wasn't that many."
"Bag of Holding." Mer replied
"Wha-?"
"Its a bag of holding. Someone put stuff in it before you did."
"How do you know? It was empty when I found it."
"And its not when you want something out."
"No it isn't, because I put something in it. How big is it in there anyways?"
"Um, I don't really know?"
"And what would happen if I stuck one of those--"
[WELCOME TRAVELERS. WE ARE PLEASED YOU HAVE ARRIVED.]
"--Yeah one of those in there."
"Um I don't know?" Mer was beginning to sound worried.
"Ya wanna go find out?"
"Guys, I think they're done." Nora snapped us out of our trilling conversation, redirecting our attention to the crystal pillar with cream filled filled center. Er, person thing filled center. Whatever the heck it was. Flanking glowing crystal--man, I'm calling it a man--man, were twelve faceless hybrid creatures, six per side. I found myself agreeing with Jess, they were staring at us.
[WELCOME TRAVELERS. WE ARE PLEASED YOU HAVE ARRIVED.] They intoned, with a voice of thousands. [WE SPEAK FOR THE ~~~~. NOT ALL MAKE IT SO FAR.]
"I swear they've said all that already."
"Shh."
[WE HAVE SUMMONED YOU HERE.]
"Wait. What?"
[WE HAVE SUMMONED YOU HERE. YOU MUST HELP US]
"No I do not. I hate being volunteered for things."
"Q, be quiet." Nora shushed me. Is this irony?
"I really think they like hearing themselves talk. Or think."
"Jess, shhhh!"
[YOU MUST HELP US. WE ARE TRAPPED.]
"Pete and repeat were in a boat--" Mer nudged Jess, cutting her off before she could go further .
"How are you trapped?" Nora asked.
[WE ARE TRAPPED. YOU MUST FREE US.]
"We get that. How are you trapped?" Mer asked this time.
[YOU MUST FREE US. UNLOCK THE SEALS.]
The Keyblade summoned itself into Nora's hand and shimmered with a glow matching the open unblinking eyes of the man trapped within the crystal.
"Where are the seals?" She asked.
[WE DO NOT KNOW.]
"Well that's helpful." I intoned, granting me glared from both Mer and Nora. Jess just looked bored, or maybe slightly annoyed as Fluff was trying to climb onto her head. "Wait. Back up a second. What did you mean by you summoned us?"
The being seemed to twitch in confusion.
"Yeah that is a good question."
"Gah! Fluff that's my face."
[WE SUMMONED YOU.]
"Explain."
[WE SUMMONED YOU FROM YOUR WORLD.]
"Better. Explain."
[YOU MUST HELP US.]
"No. Explain."
"Q!" Nora shouted at me again.
"I. Want. Answers. If this thing has them, I want them."
"Guys, it has powers. It brought us here. It threatened to 'calm' us. Why are you threatening it?" Jess was attempting to be the voice of reason, however it fell flat with a fidgeting bird thing in her arms.
"See previous statement."
"You are either hungry or in pain. Because it can't be the coffee. You haven't had coffee in two weeks." Jess said.
"Don't remind me." Oh that wonderful beverage. Why can I not find you in these backwards realms?
"Which is it?" Mer asked.
".... I have a headache." I replied.
"Okay. Now can we stop threatening the dude in the crystal and his friends." Nora said.
"No."
"Why?"
"Because I want answers."
Mer then proceeded to hit her heat on the nearest pillar of rock, repeatedly.
[WE GAVE YOU POWERS. YOU MUST HELP US.]
"There see, an answer. That wasn't so hard now was it. Now why us and why these powers?"
[UNLOCK THE SEALS.]
"No, see, now you're not answering again."
[YOU MUST FREE US. UNLOCK THE SEALS]
I opened my mouth to protest. Mer was about to clamp a hand down over it when the entity continued.
[YOU CANNOT GO HOME. YOU MUST FREE US.]
[TWO TO PROTECT. ONE TO UNLOCK.] [NOT ALL MAKE IT SO FAR.] [YOU HAVE BEEN CHOSEN. YOU MUST FREE US.] [THE KEY KNOWS THE SEALS.] [YOU MUST FREE US.]
The void faced creatures began to disappear starting with the two furthest from the central crystal. They dissolved into swirls of vapor as the glow from the crystal dimmed.
[YOU MUST FREE US.]
And the eyes abruptly shut.
NOTE: I did not miscount. The entity always summons 3: one keybearer and two guardians. It used to only summon one, but not all make it that far indeed. One of us, besides Nora is not supposed to be there. Nora may yet be a natural Keybearer (not a 'made' one as the entity implied, we'll find out eventually if she is or isn't), but she was summoned. Either the power was split due to interference or something else allowed an additional person to come.

Chapter 20 “Two to protect, one to unlock. Not all make it so far. You have been chosen, you must free us. The key knows the seals, you must free us.” I muttered to myself as we walked seemingly aimlessly down another long path. “Two to protect…” I wish I had paper… “Two to protect… one to unlock, that one is obvious, Nora is the keyblade wielder, but two to protect…” “Must you really do that?” Q snapped from up ahead where her eerie hand electric light gimmick cast odd shadows across my companion’s faces. “Yes, just because you have amazing mind powers of reasoning and memorization doesn’t mean I do.” I was a little shorter tempered than usual. Something about that place messed with me and the balance I spend days retaining was on the edge of shattering. In some horrible perverse way I found myself wishing that a new door had not opened after crystal man fell back asleep and black hole monsters vanished. At least then this collection of dark would have been dispersed. Instead it prickled intermittently in my chest reminding me… encouraging me. “Now. Two to protect, one to unlock, fairly obvious though there are three to protect. They either made a mistake or decided one of us weren’t up to their ‘protecting’ standards. Not all make it so far; again fairly obvious, the man in the rock has dragged others from their crumbling world and granted them powers to unlock and protect and that we are expendable.” A small shiver crept up my spine. “But we had our powers before the world crumbled…” Nora glanced back; I read her next statement in her face, in all of their faces. “One thing at a time. You have been chosen, you must free us. Also fairly obvious, he for whatever reason selected us from the near seven billion of our planet, though there were perhaps others though I doubt only those from our planet were selected, and determined we had what he needed to set him free. That leaves the key knows the seals. That suggests that they key and therefore the doors will lead us to whatever these seals are.” My mind reeled, so many questions, not so many answers. “Why are you trying to memorize this?” Jess asked. “In typical plot developments the first ‘voice of purpose’ an adventuring group runs into is either a great alley or the big antagonist, either way what they say is important and what they say last is more so.” “Why the last bit?” I couldn’t help but smile. “Dramatic effect, it makes them more mysterious and thus seem more powerful. It makes the hero’s more inclined to listen and obey.” I shrugged. “I am a little more worried about the ‘you cannot go home’ bit.” Nora said after a moment’s silence. “I am more worried about the clueless puppet roll he was so intent on imposing upon us.” Jess muttered ahead of me. “That lends the question of wither or not we find and unlock these seals.” Q added after surprising length of silence. “He may very well be stuck there for a good reason.” “That’s a fair point, good guys don’t normally manipulate and control.” Nora nodded. “Hey, I resent that.” Q looked offended and sensing danger Jess cut in. “I agree he didn’t leave me with the best of feelings, but at the same time we probably don’t have much of a choice as he does seem to have a fair amount of control over the keyblade and our destinations.” She looked scared. I didn’t blame her, my heart was racing and I remembered something. "Did anyone else not quite catch the name of the one the creepy things spoke for?" They all looked at me and i muttered quitely to myself "didn't think so." There is a lot of lore about faceless creatures and none of them had happy endings. We walked in silence for a bit longer when I heard up ahead a soft chime and rolling noise. “Hang on I think I kicked something.” We all came to a stop as Q dashed forward and picked something. “It’s another orb; it’s too dark for me to tell what color though I would say blue or purple.” She held out to her sister “I believe this is yours.” Jess started to say something but behind her there was a flash of light. A door appeared. How convenient. I had the pleasure of making a world already! its Nara's turn =3

Chapter 21
-------------
Flash of light makes door. That was, not really new, but it made me wish for a flashlight, or a camera or... I pointed my hand at a nearby wall and zapped it.
"d*mn! No door."
"No, there is a door. Right here." Nora gestured to the mysterious door. "What were you doing anyways?"
"Trying to make a door." Now why is everyone giving me weird looks? "Well its not like anything else makes sense. It just might have worked."
"Ri~ght."
Mer pulled open the door, stopping the discussion right there in its infancy. Alas poor discussion, you left this world too young. d*mn I needed coffee, the lack of caffeine in my system, now that I was so kindly reminded, was making me act weird. That or I was over reacting to the constant pounding headache that had been driving me crazy ever since we left that ashy world. It was almost like the headaches I usually got when high pressure systems moved through. Ugh, and me with no painkiller. I never did finish cataloging the jars in the bottomless bag.
I was dragged through the door, hands pulling at my shirt. I opened my mouth in protest.
"Q, get through the door already!"
"I don't trust it." Although I did not have a choice as I was pulled though and unceremoniously deposited on the grass.
"Looks like an island." Mer said.
"Yeah, one with no way off." Jess replied.
The sky closed behind me, just as I reached for the narrowing gap. I nearly tumbled off the cliff into the clouds below, but managed to right myself before falling to an untimely death.
"That was close." I gasped., hugging the ground
"What was?" Jess asked.
"Oh nothing. So we're stranded? Thank you soooooo very much for looking before leaping." I was not happy with the forceful dragging and stranding.
"Its not like we had anywhere else to go." Mer shouted back.
"Did you look?"
"Yes! We walked for HOURS!"
"That means nothing."
"ARGH!" Right, remembering note to self, do not antagonize the Mer.
"Guys, why don't we see if anyone's home?" Nora asked.
"What?" Bot h Mer and I so eloquently replied.
"The tower?" Nora continued.
"What tower? Oh that tower."
Short, sweet, moving things along. I think its my shortest post yet.
We're at Yen Sid's tower post KH2. Its full of lesser nobodies and magical thingies. Layout is on an island. In tower, the foyer, stairs going up to portal things which lead to rooms and the upstairs study. My intention is that we find one of the thniogs binding the entity here and we get our butts kicked by Yen Sid, but fell free to change things up. I call dibs to start when/if we go to the Incredibles world.

Sorry it took so long! ;D
Chapter 21 (part two off of Q's)
“That tower doesn’t look particularly safe.” Jess stated as we all gawked. I was inclined to agree with her, it seemed like someone had built a tower but the middle part was very susceptible to high winds and blew it askew. Expect that made little sense and the building was somehow still standing and didn’t seem in a hurry to change that state. In fact I found myself more worried about the lack of sturdy stone preventing the whole crooked thing from sliding into the orangish abyss far far FAR below. What was beyond the sea of clouds? There appeared to be mountain peaks poking through, they were a lush green that suggested high altitude plant life or that these were low clouds. A deep breath assured me that we couldn’t be too high. Anything could be below, deep waters, vast stretches of land and I would never know unless fell off the edge of this perched island of land or if a building I stood in fell. Interesting visual. It made approaching the large wood doors seem far less a good idea. Not that I am afraid of heights or water just rickety things that combine the two.
“I can see this going great: ‘Hello, don’t mind us, we are wayward travelers sent by a creepy guy imprisoned in a crystal who managed to grant us odd gifts that may or may not have come from video games. We seem to have gotten us stranded on your little island and were wondering if you happened to know where any seals are’?” I gestured wildly about as I followed. Nora shot me a ‘don’t be annoying look’ and marched up the stone steps as I preoccupied myself with the lovely foliage. The trees appeared to be some kind of evergreen but what kind I was not sure. The needles were wide and flat, the smallest about the size of my pinky. The grass around the tower was fairly over grown but not overly so. I kicked something that made a dull thud and a closer inspection revealed a decent sized chest without a top and empty. What a weird thing to have in a yard. Nora opened the door and it creaked loudly enough for me to hear.
“Hello!” She called into the darkness. “Anyone home!?” she nudged the door the rest of the way open. “We were sent by a creepy guy in a rock who managed to grant us weird powers that may or may not have been from video games we played before our home got eaten!” She added not quite as loud. “Don’t worry Mater; it looks like the place is abandoned.”
“Yeah there is dust everywhere…” Ever brave Jess stepped in. I headed towards her feeling grumpy.
“Mineral. Crystal is a mineral not a rock.” I muttered just in time for my skin to craw with anticipation and Nora to ready a battle stance keyblade ready. So much for empty, the question was where our enemy lurked. Something moved and I jerked towards it shax raised but I wasn’t nearly fast enough, there was a blur of white lunging at me, Jess shouted something and her bird was squawking. A flash of green as well as a burst of static-lightning and the white flung across the large round room. Jess was holding her green orb out looking scared and angry. Q looked curious and angry, I couldn’t see Nora’s face, but I lost a few years of my life after a scare like that.
“A nobody.” Nora hissed as the familiar form of a Dusk rose, twitching and jerking. I rolled up from my fallen position breathing a quick thanks to my fast reflexed friends.
The dusk lunged at Q who was the closest, she stepped back so Nora could clothes line it with her key blade flinging it way so Jessica could bombard it with fireballs as she shouted “Fire, Fire, Fire, BURN, Fire burn!” As it staggered Nora leapt forward again finishing it of with a merciless combo. It let out one last quiver and a dissipated.
“Wow. Way to make me feel useless.” But the crawling feeling didn’t go away.
“You just HAD to say it didn’t you!” Q spat as at least a dozen more appeared. Before I could answer they swarmed us, gracefully gliding away from my shax. I let the darkness slip through me and out of my skin its cold tingle lingering into my finger tips. Ah, at last.
*** Panting Q opened her bag of holding and handed her sister some of the water she had brought with her. Though tired be were fairly uninjured, sure there would be some bruises but the Dusks didn’t manage much more than that.
“That was fun.” Nora breathed from dusty stair number five.
“Let’s not do it again anytime soon.” Jess handed her the jar from dusty step number four.
“What do you suppose the seals look like?” Nora accepted the jar with a nod and I stood stretching. I had managed to step out of dark Mer before running out of its energy; it left me antsy but not as exhausted, a worthy exchange as far as I was concerned.
“There is probably one here seeing as our mysterious benefactor sent us to this tower in the clouds. I am going to partake in some urban exploring. I will shout of I see any aquatic mammals.” Nora half shrugged and stood followed by the others.
“We might as well get it over with.” Q put the jar back. So we climbed up the spiraling stone stairs. I ran my hand along the wall at one point ant a thick layer of filth rubbed off revealing some brightly colored paint.
“I wonder what this place was?” I asked, thinking aloud, but if they had any theories I never heard them as the stairway came to an abrupt end with only a floating green… portal? Yes, we will go with portal. As we stood gawking for a moment images of a sarcastic and rude robot hell bent on our destruction came to mind. That was than quickly replaced that Magic really didn’t exist in that world and there were no other signs to suggest that we had ended up in her reality. Suddenly more confident I poked it. I didn’t get sucked in, or burst in to flame, or break open reality, no; my finger just tingled not unpleasantly. “Only way is up.” I stepped through and for a moment only saw light then stepped out into another stair well. By the time my companions followed through my eyes adjusted so I could see well enough to take a proper look around. There seemed to be yet more staircases and more green portals, the only problem is that they all seemed to just float randomly about the tower. Nora let out a small whistle that bounced about the chamber with an eerie echo.
“This place is weird.” Jessica muttered as we climbed toward the next portal.
“It is a rather mysterious tower isn’t it?” Q agreed as we stepped through the portal again. This time we found a room however empty of anything but dust and dusks.
“Heads up!” Nora shouted as she hurtled her keyblade like some messed up Frisbee at the twitching white things. It struck two and they vanished immediately while the third one I had been hacking at just looked smug at my feeble attacks. That is until Jessica light it on fire. Then it disappeared.
“I need a better weapon.” I grumbled kicking a small pile of dust in irritation, which caused Nora to sneeze, and showed a stone star laid into the floor. There was also once probably a stain glass window, but it had been broken probably a while ago. This room had two stairwells, one from where we came and a steeper one that didn’t appear to have a portal at the end. We preceded with a touch more caution until we reached the grandest of rooms yet.
Not that it looked to be anything special, it was really just large, once filled with what looked to be bookshelves that had been straight up destroyed to mere splinters. There was also a large desk and chair but I say was because they too were in splinters. There was a great window behind the desk and chair looking out into the world of soft hills and orange clouds.
“Is that a keyhole in the wall?” Jessica asked and drew all of our attention. Sure enough in the wall was a tarnished brass two by three panel with a fancy design and a keyhole. As if waiting for us to acknowledge it, they keyblade (which Nora had not dismissed) jerked up and suddenly shinned like it had when we found that door. There was a clear and definite click as the brass dissolved away to reveal a decent sized shard of crystal similar looking to the one the man was trapped in.
“I think we found the first-“ Something hit me with tremendous force in the square of my back. I was knocked off my feet and hurtled into a pile of wood shards.
“What have you done!” An angry and old sounding voice shouted. “Do you know what you have unlocked!” Sight had not been fully restored to my dazed self, but there was a tall figure facing off with Nora, Jessica and, Q.
“You okay?” Nora asked as I swayed into a standing position. Darkness settled in me with the sudden anger of being attacked.
“Peachy.” I spat in a voice that was far darker than I had ever heard from my mouth. MY skin tingled as the darkness manifested itself once more.
“Who are you and why have you broken seal?” The man looked old but wise, with sharp dark eyes and a long and bushy grey beard. He wore a long robe; a wizard or magic man of sorts would be my first guess even if there wasn’t an angry blue magic boiling over in his hands. He was completely not worried about my sudden transformation or of everyone else’s battle stances.
“We are travelers who have lost our home and sent somewhat unwillingly to find these seals.” Nora responded and sounding far more reasonable than I think anyone else would have managed at that point. My back twinged with sudden pain, it took significant will power to not leap at him and tear him to shreds. “Your turn who are you and why did you attack Mer?” He didn’t answer just attacked. Jessica’s barrier didn’t seem to help much to stop the blue magic, but it seemed to break the spell apart. It behaved like a liquid bursting out in different directions, wherever it hit seemed to burn. I leapt forward, ignoring the other attacks from both friend and foe. Rip, tear, destroy. Destroy. Nora grabbed the collar of my shirt and yanked be back before a small burst of flame leapt around him. Q channeled some of the lightning she could manifest and sent it hurtling at him. He didn’t seem to expect if from her because he only barely managed to not deflect it but rather channel it out through the great window with a defining crack.
“His pawns must be destroyed.” I could hear the old man say as if to himself, as if he was justifying. The darkness in me shuttered, I was running out of time. A large spell spiraled out from his palms it knocked Jessica and Nora into each other and Q against the wall. “To use they keyblade in such a way… I cannot allow you to continue on. We were loosing badly and his spells seemed to be building momentum rather than wearing through. All three were sporting some nasty looking wounds and I knew I didn’t look much better. I had to be quick. My claws dragged down the reality nearest my companions. We needed to run or we would die.
“Lets go!” I shouted. The portal was smaller than usual and I was almost entirely back to normal. They didn’t hesitated and the old man prepared another spell. I watched the end of Jessica’s ponytail vanish when something painful banished what was left of my darkness away. I was falling back and my chest felt heavy and breathing hurt. I watched the portal close behind me and I fell back into the darkness. I was cold.
long and lame but at least it moves thing on! I think Q is next?

Chapter 22 ------------------ (part 1/?) The crazy old guy attacked us. Now I understand, sort of, why he attacked. We were breaking and entering, found a shiny and were about to take it. But what I don't understand is that he condemned us to destruction for almost grabbing that crystal. Just who or what is that crystal guy to drive this wizard. for lack of a better term, to kill us? So naturally we attacked back (it was self defense!), or most of us did . Nora never made a move against him. He was strong, knocking us around like leaves in the wind, but that's all he did. It was like he was holding back, trying to judge us, or just tired. It didn't matter, we were getting out asses handed to us by that alone, and I wasted the last of my energy attempting to get the madness to stop.
Mer shouted, "Lets go," and gestured to the small portal. I was the first one in. I admit, I'm a coward, but running from a fight is the best way to regain a tactical advantage.
The tunnel was dark, as before, but not black. Whispers everywhere. I could see... Oh GODS, I COULD SEE--
makeitstopmakeitstopstopmakeitstopakeitstopmakeitstopmakeitstop mAkE iT sToP MAKE IT STOP!
The ground was rough pavement beneath my fingertips, scraping against my cheek. I could hear screaming, the sounds of people fighting, and failing, around me.
"Did we get everyone?" A male voice called out from the clamor.
My head, it still hurt, although not as bad. And the sound, that silent melody I knew the others couldn't hear, it was back.
"Dash is making a last check." A woman's voice, followed by the sound of a fist hitting something. "Then we also get to safety."
I feel a gust of wind blow past me. A young boy's voice,"Mom! There's four people over here!" Hisssssssssssqueaky! "Uh and a very angry bird-thingy! Niceeeee birdy."
"We'll be right there Dash! Is that the last of them?" The woman's voice from before responded.
"Yeah! I think so!" The boy replied back.
"You think so? Or you know so?" The woman admonished.
There was another gust of wind then a few moments of silence. I attempted to open my eyes, but the wind came back and blew dust into them.
"I know so." The boy spoke with pride.
I felt myself being lifted and placed on someone's shoulder, then squished as someone else was placed on top of me. I opened my eyes to blonde hair and ears and a red suited shoulder. A grunt escaped me as another weight squished me down, the shoulder below me digging into my gut.
"Bob, you have to be more careful with them."
"Yeah, yeah, tell me that when we don't have these shadow Supers trying to kill us." HISSSSSSSSSSQUEAKY! "Is this thing even a bird?"
"Don't worry , I got it." A fourth voice joined the fray, and a humming sound followed by very muffled squeaks from an angry Fluffles.
"We'll ask them about it later now MOVE--" The woman's voice preceded a concussive blast, wherein I decided that I did NOT want to remain conscious during the rest of this nonsense and passed out.

-------------------- (part 2/?) -----------------
I awoke in a hospital room, again. This was getting repetitive.
"Ah, good . You're awake, and your darkness levels are well within the norm." A rather short man, resembling an insane Einstein with goggles, was waving some sort of device around my person. It looked like some kind of flashlight connected to a souped up tv remote. " We can't be too careful now. Since you seem far less injured than your reports implied, I need you to vacate this bed. We have a great deal of injured patients and only so many spaces to put them. You understand."
For lack of alternative, I did as the small man bade me, sliding my feet onto the floor and climbing out to the cot.
"Your friends are down the hall in the stairwell. I would have given you all a room, but we're running short on those as well."
The hallway was strangely empty. Silent except for the faint beeping of machinery or the clacking of footsteps down some other unseen hallway. The walls were a very pale yellow with colored stripes pointing the directions to various wings. Florescent bulbs hummed and cast an eerie green glow, not the warm full spectrum I was accustomed . Wires in the walls flickered their locations to me, tracing the hallway, highlighting every outlet, every light. A faceless monkey-thing stared at me, black empty abyss for its face not three feet away. I stared back, into the hole of its face. The stairwell door framed the end of the empty hallway.
Quietly opening the door, I found Nora and Jess lounging on the steps, murmurs of other people echoing from above and below. Jess was cuddling Fluff as is sprawled in her chest making soft 'mep mep' noises as she rubbed its head.
"There there Fluffy. I won't let the bubbles hurt you." She was telling it. Fluff replied "Meeeeeeeep chirrr" and snuggled deeper.
"Ugh, stop obsessing over that thing. We need to find Mer and Q."
"But, I'm right here." I informed Nora, walking up next to her.
"Gah." "Ahh." "Squeaky!" They all jumped in surprise. Maybe I came in too quietly.
"Okay, we still need to find Mer," Nora continued as if the previous incident hadn't happened, "and discuss what happened back there, in the tower, with the crystal, and YEN FREAKIN' SID right there and blasting us." She was beginning to grow hysterical. "Guys I'm not so sure we should be doing this at all. If Yen Sid freaks out about it, its a very very very bad thing! We need to back and apologize and get this all sorted out then apologize again and maybe get an autograph."
"Uh, how do you know it was-"
"It was HIM. Yen Sid. It can't have been anyone else. It. Was. Him. And you attacked him!" Nora continued.
"Self-defense," I countered, "and only once." Not that I could have done anymore, being drained dry and all. The walls called out their siren song of humming powered wires. Dammit, i will NOT drain a hospital of power in a crisis situation. I won't!
"Um, let's find Mer before we continue this," Jess butted in, Fluff melting in her lap.
The stairwell door opened. "Hey- Wait you're not Mer. You're the maker of the BUBBLE OF EVIL!" Hissqueaky!
"Bubble of what?" The red wearing teenage girl responded, confused. "Its a force field. I need you three to come with me."
"There are four of us." Jess said, standing up, much to the dismay of a comfortable fluffball.
"Yes, I'm taking you to her." The teen responded.
"I mean here, right now." Jess continued.
"You mean an invisible person?" She asked, sounding interested .
"No, I mean him!" Jess held up her adopted vicious fluffy pet from another world, except he was upside down and scratching his head lazily with a claw, his tail wrapped around Jess's arm.
"Oh I-"
"Why are you wearing a mask?" I interrupted. This detail was bugging me. "And spandex. That doesn't seem very comfortable."
"Actually, its not that bad" She responded in a quiet voice before answering louder. "I'm a Super."
"A super -what?" She was missing a noun. Where was the noun?
"Q! Lets just follow her to where Mer is. Save your games for later."
"Oh right!" The super-whatever the heck she was responded to Nora. "This way."
She lead us out of the stairwell and down the hall, into another hall, into yet another hall, up a different flight of stairs, through another hallway.
I hate hospitals.

(part 3/?)
Okay, I finally modified this post! I am working on the next part which will end my turn! Sorry it took me so long ^ ^;
I remembered lights, lots of lights, lights over head, lights all around, lights being shinned in my eyes; the a touch of familiarity was concerning yet I couldn’t seem to place it. Then again I was having trouble keeping together two thoughts. There moments of lucidness that was filled with loud unfamiliar voices in unknown places. There was pain too, lots of pain, then there was quite and comfort. The moment passed and I awoke to arguing voices in a very small room that was like once a broom closet before cleared out to make a hospital room.
“…even get me started on her wounds, the Doctor said they were almost burns but from nothing we have ever seen before and her anatomy is alien to us, even in terms of supers. ” A man whispered loudly. I turned slightly and saw the room’s door open.
“Something is different about them, all of them not just the blond. They came out of nowhere-“
“-so Dash says. He is just a kid, there was a lot going on, and he doesn’t have the practice we do Bob!” A female countered in an equally loud whisper, seriously, why bother?
“He isn’t an idiot, if that one wasn’t so weird than maybe, just maybe I would brush it off.”
“She is probably just a Super.” The woman was exasperated or at least sounded a lot like my mother when I was arguing and she knew I was clearly wrong. There was a new pain that had nothing to do with my wounds; suddenly whatever the man had to say in return seemed insignificant. I listened all the same.
“There has never been a mutation like that in association to the supers before. It isn’t just coincidence! The shadow supers show up and now them!” The man, Bob, didn’t even bother whispering at this point.
“SHHHH!” The woman hissed, “You are going to wake her!” She saw a hand and a slender wrist pull her door closed with a clear thunk. I wanted to ask questions, but weariness brought on the sting of old and happy memories pulled me into a dark but warm sleep.
I jerked awake and there was a cry of surprise beside me when I turned my head there was a woman in a light blue uniform, a nurse most likely as we were in a hospital and a doctor doesn’t have that soft of eyes. She was holding something but I could not yet focus my dreary eyes. At least I didn’t have to bother with contact anymore.
“You’re awake!”
Yes. That is rather obvious as I am looking at you. I thought bitterly. I would have spoken but it would have taken too much energy so I just smiled softly and nodded.
“I-I’m… umm… I will be right back.” She half ran to the door and called down the hall for a doctor then rushed to my side. “We weren’t really sure you were ever waking again there. You haven’t been out that long but you were in really bad condition.” She rushed about pressing buttons and reading electronics as she spoke and picked up the flashlight and remote looking thing again as the doctor stepped in looking about as surprised as she did. He was tall and thin with more grey hair then his young features would have suggested.
“Well you had us worried, I am happy to see you awake.” He smiled tiredly and I saw the dark circles under his eyes. I wanted to sit up but my body felt weak and it took me a moment to realize that the place the darkness once filled was empty.
“Readings are all normal Doctor Lawson.” The nurse dutifully reported.
“Thanks Pam, could you please fetch Mr. Incredible? He wanted to know when she woke up.” His voice was soft but I noticed the hand he kept in his pocket and how he shifted a little when he spoke the nurse either didn’t notice or didn’t share a similar fear because she nodded and left without any haste but not slowly either. “Now Miss…”
“Meredith.” I said softly, “Just Meredith.”
“Well, Miss Meredith, you were brought here in a rather horrible state, it would be helpful to know what happened.”
“We were attacked and fell and-” I looked around suddenly remembering, “Where are my friends? Are they safe; was I the only one hit?” The doctor raised his hand to silence her.
“Calm down, they are fine, some cuts and bruises but nothing serious. Who attacked you?” His tone bothered me; it suggested that the calm and happy doctor was a lie. Who knows what else was a lie as well.
“Where are they?” my ton hardened if I had any darkness left in me, it would have started to manifest in my features.
“I will take you to them after you answer my questions; we need to know more about what attacked you so we can know how to better treat your wounds.”
He lies, he means me harm, us harm. I have to find them! My voice screamed in my head. I started to think of ways to disable him and escape the quickest when a cold remembrance slid down my spine, it was like before; like when I wanted to hurt Jess. I took a deep breath, he could very well be lying but he could very well not be.
“An old man with some weird power attacked us. We were not expecting it and I got hit badly before I managed to open the door so we could get out. The last thing I remember is falling then waking up here.”
“He was a Super?” The doctor asked.
I had no fricken clue what the hell a super was, but he would certainly be considered super powerful.
“Yes.” I nodded; it wasn’t really a lie, honestly.
“Are you and your friends Supers?”
“More or less.” Again a nod and the doctor pressed his lips. “You weren’t registered with the government, thought I guess you’re young enough that your powers manifested when they were still… well you know…” He trailed off and shook his head as the half open door swung the rest of the way open. A very large, very strong, and very red man stormed in and I took an involuntary gasp.
“You’re awake.” Again with the obvious. “Who are you, where did you come from!?” I couldn’t have answered if I wanted too, I mean, a masked giant in red spandex just appeared followed shortly by a cross looking woman (also masked and in red spandex) stormed in.
“Dear, she is a patient and this is a hospital!” Now with context I recognized them as the two arguing in the hall. Mr. Incredible crossed his arms and looked irritated but his wife pressed on. “We are hardly holding on out there and if they really are supers then we need all the help we can get.” Mr. Incredible started to protest but shut his mouth quickly and sighed in defeat. The woman touched her husband’s arm with a tender air and she smiled at me. “Now, miss, we do have some questions for you and your companions-.”
“-Where are they? I never got a straight answer.” I interrupted, it was rude, but I didn’t want to answer until we had talked and decided on a story.
“They are in another part of the hospital, you can go to them as soon as you are healed enough to move around” The doctor responded as he looked up to the clock. “We have more patients then doctors and places to put them, I need to go check in and make sure there I am not needed elsewhere.” He talked medical gibberish to the nurse for the moment while Mr. Incredible stared at me oh, pardon, stared at my ears with an expression of frustration and fascination.
“Listen young lady, we-“
“Meredith if you would please.” I interrupted again. He flashed anger but with an unexpected patience half nodded and continued.
“Meredith, I understand that you had a bad day and am probably in a lot of pain still, but as I am sure you already know, we are up to our necks in shadow supers and casualties that their attack caused. You are not from around here, so why are you here when the rest of the world is suffering the same attack and where did you come from?” His tone was reasonable enough and I had a hard time not squirming under the weight of his gaze. I didn’t know what to say, the truth? That we were sent by a man trapped in crystal who had given us powers formed from the fantasies of stories crafted for entertainment. That I was made partially of the darkness that threatened their world? That everything they knew was likely to be swallowed whole like ours had.
Luckily I didn’t have to answer because a small group of footsteps approached the room.
“She has been out cold since they patched her up, but the doctors stabilized her so she is safe. You can probably stay with her until she wakes up though.” A dark haired, dark eyed, girl in her mid teens said, looking back at those who followed as she spoke. I sighed in relief at the sight of my friends who were whole and unharmed. The girl turned to face the room and looked shocked at me for moment then at her parents. “Mom… does that girl have rabbit ears?” Jessica let out a small snorted laugh before regaining composure.
“Violet.” Her mother scolded and I felt my cheeks redden.
“I am not a rabbit.” I murmured, folding my arms defensively.
“Vi, why don’t you go get Dash and Jack Jack and get lunch?” Mr. Incredible asked-as-an-order, not taking his eyes from me.
“Daaaad.” She started to whine but her dad shot her a look and she turned to leave muttering about a robot and not being a kid anymore before vanishing. My friends filed in to the now crowded room, though Danielle lingered by the door, either not wanting to enter the already crowded room or worried about shorting the electric equipment that was in it.
“What are you and where did you come from.” His wife started to protest but he held up his hand. “No. I won’t let them evade this any longer and since we are all here now is better than any other time.” He looked pointedly at me, “What are you?” He repeated.
“I am a human woman.” I responded in a voice much more calm then I felt, wishing for the first time that I had darkness to call upon for comfort.
“Liar. You are not human; your DNA is not human. What are you?”
“She is an experiment, an accident.” We all turned and looked at Jessica; hopefully our surprise could be interpreted as shock that she was telling them. “She was an intern at a lab, just cleaning and stuff at that point and there was an accident with the M3D, the Microsonic DNA Disassembling Device. We aren’t sure how she didn’t die, lord knows everything else had, but she her genetic structure got all kinds of messed up and can draw the energy from the shadows.” We stared at her blankly; her sister opened her mouth and closed it immediately. Never in my life had I ever heard such bull and never had I heard such bull so convincingly told. Who knew Jess could lie so well.
“Oh.” Mr. Incredible muttered, “Well why didn’t you just say so.” It was rhetorical, but I answered anyway.
“Because it’s supposed to be classified, we aren’t even supposed to be out in the civilian eye. They are going to skin us alive for leaving.” I noticed a subtle change in Jess’s stance, she held herself like a soldier. I suppressed a smile, too much Stargate, or maybe just enough.
“Not us, you, we can pass as reg’s-“she smiled apologetically at Mr. and Mrs. Incredible, “-that’s regulars, sorry. So we are allowed to leave, you are not.” I laughed lightly.
“Well, when did I ever listen?” A sudden throb in my ribs stopped the laughter cold.
“You okay Mater?” Nora took a small step forward.
“Did a Shadow Super give you that?” Mrs. Incredible asked pointing to where the wound was beneath my gown.
“No. If a shadow could to this, there would be no one left alive. A super did this to me, an old man, we had a miss understanding and he thought I was a threat to him, attacked first.” My voice wavered a bit, the pain dulled but not the realization of how lucky I, we, were to be alive.
“SO let me get this straight, you. “He pointed at me. “Are a secret lab’s experiment gone wrong. You-“he rounded on Jessica, “are from the same lab, and a soldier of some sorts from this secretive lab,” He looked over Jess’s shoulder to Nora and Q. “and you two are other experiments!?” He gestured wildly.
“Yes.” Nora answered with a nod. Mr. Incredible raised an eyebrow skeptically.
“Well then. What is this lab called?
“That is beyond classified.” I responded casually, “Though I doubt you would know it if we told you anyway.
“We came out to fight the Shadows, to help the supers.” Nora smiled.
The Incredible’s looked at each other, speaking to each other in the way only spouses can, until Mr. Incredible shrugged.
“Well, I still don’t trust you, but we have heard weirder. We don’t have the manpower to monitor you constantly, but know that you are on a short leash. I would like the three of you who are bed ridden to meet Edna and Mirage tonight, some one will come and get you.” He clearly thought that it was probably a bad idea, but left us alone to go back to business.
Jessica nodded when they were far enough away to not hear and then burst out in laughter.
“That was a one hell of a story.” Nora giggled. “Both of you were great, experiments, HA! It’s like something from a comic book!”
“The Microsonic DNA Disassembling Device?” Danielle asked with a raised eyebrow and Jessica nodded solemnly with Squeaky still on her shoulder.
“The M, three D’s. An impressive machine; the boss folk’s were most irate when our little bunny wondered into its rays.” She shook her head but had a wide smile to which Q rolled her eyes.
“Well, it looks like we are in a world on the brink of ending how ours did. The last jump did me in so no more dark power for me and so we won’t be going anywhere fast.” I leaned back into my pillows feeling tired again.
“I want to try and save this world.” Nora murmured. “I don’t want to leave another place to be destroyed, not while I have the keyblade. Maybe here we can get equipment and much needed training.” We nodded and the room fell to silence. For a moment I remembered the silence that followed the faceless creature’s orders and I shivered.
Maybe us being an experiment wasn’t such a lie.
