When a child's power manifests, a ceremony is held to celebrate the child's movement into adulthood. In larger cities on this world, the nobility sometimes breed for specific magical traits, such as the ability to summon spells (mage), enhanced fighting abilities (super speed, strength, etc.).
Those who do not manifest powers are considered in a sense to be disabled. Sometimes they are treated less than human. Those truly without powers are extremely rare. If a person does not have powers, most likely the powers cannot manifest in a physical, demonstrable way.
The hierarchy of the towns and cities is based on the amount of power the person shows/inherits. For example if the current high noble lineage dies, a new one is founded by wedding the most powerful man and woman. The more power a person has or shows, the more likely and able they are to join the ranks of nobility.
The government system is a cross between an oligarchy and a monarchy. Smaller 'kingdoms' are governed by a dictatorship.
The world is earthlike in appearance, with similar flora and fauna. Some unusual creatures inhabit this world, such as minor daemons, dragons, faeries, and other such mystical creatures. The more human like of these, the daemons, faeries, mermaids, etc., are actually groups of humans whose powers manifested in this way and grouped together in a community.
---------------
The Religious/Elemental system of this world is based off ten elements. Seven Lower: Earth, Wood, Water, Fire, Air, Mind, and Spirit. Three Higher: Light/Life, Dark/Death, and Time. Some believe that there are only nine elements, Earth, and Wood being of the same element. Others believe there are more than ten elements, elements that have yet to be discovered or acknowledged.
The Lower elements in order of ascending toward the Higher are Earth, Wood, Water, Fire, Air, Mind, and Spirit. This is not the order of them against each other. The order of power is as follows (the one after defeats the one before if it were pure element against pure element): Wood, Fire, Earth, Water, and Air. Mind and Spirit are both equal in power, mind having the ability to affect all and spirit being unaffected by all. They both can affect each other; Mind is the only thing that can affect Spirit of the Lower elements.
Earth- power over the ground, mountains, gemstones, metals
Wood- power over plants and land-based animals (any except aerial and aquatic) (minor shape shifting)
Water- power over water (ice) and aquatic animals
Fire- power over fire (magma, etc.)
Air- power over air and flying creatures
Mind- psychic powers (mind based), telekinesis, telepathy, teleportation, minor control over the 5 below
Spiritual- psychic powers (spirit-based) ghosts, speak to dead, aura, astral plane travel
(Mages are actually powerful psychics so their power would be based off ‘mind’ as it can influence, not control, all Lower elements)
The Upper three elements order of ascending and power is Life/Light, and Death/Dark then Time above all. Time controls the passage of life and death, light and dark, therefore it reigns above all.
Light/Life—power based off life force, power over light (laser, illusions) shape shifting.
Dark/Death---power activates through death or at death, (necromancy) power over darkness/shadows, cold.
Time---Power over time (speed or slow), time dilation (more done in less time), time travel, immortality, precognition, control over seasons.
All powers of this world are theorized to come from one or more elements. Those whose power is from a singular element tend to have more control than those of multi elements.
The most common elements are mind for the lower tier and life for the upper tier of elements. Other elemental preferences depend on the region of dwelling. Temples for each element are scattered throughout the area and hold festivals on elemental holy days.
The year is split into 10 months based on the elements, starting with Earth and ending with Time. The months consist of five lengths, 10-day periods also based on the elements, except for the final three, which have seven lengths each. The last three days of each length are used for rest, respect, and festivals.
The final three months are the most important. Each signifies one of the upper elements and has a week for each of the lower. Life signifies the start of the harvest, Death signifies the start of winter, and Time signifies the end of the old year and the start of the new. The other seasons occur in the months of Wood (spring), Fire (summer), and Mid-Spirit (fall).
Note: Nobles are bred in families with either great control over one element or a hold in many. Not all nobles are corrupt; the younger families are definitely not. The older families are corrupt because of their power. “Power corrupts; Absolute power corrupts absolutely.”

Oaths/Curses---‘Curse you to under earth’=Hell or ‘d*mn you to hell. ’
“By the three”=upper deity.
“Through the three”; “Through life, death, and eternity”; “Through light and dark forever”=Promises, marriage oaths, binding oaths, oaths of love (Translation=through anything, forever).
“Damhyao”=sh*t/d*mn (translation=I made it up…).
“Nzhe”=sh*t/d*mn (translation=I made it up…).
“Below Earth and beyond Time”=endless, oath of service; Derogatory-idiot, daydreamer, lazy (i.e. ‘His mind is below Earth and Beyond Time’=He is way out there.)

Name—Species—description—extra abilities (besides land transport)
Horse—horse/mammal—Horse—Farm work, edible, strong, pulling carts.
Delyah—Bird(predatory)—Large hawk like bird with long legs and neck (like a secretary bird or caracara), Blue/indigo hued with ‘thumb’ claws tipping the wings and dangerous beak and claws—limited flight transport, very fast runner, can be used in battle as weaponry.
Drak-mount—dragon (dragon-like)—reptile mirror of the Delyah, leathery wings and draconic head—abilities similar to the Delyah, corrosive acidic breath that can damage metal and flesh, cannot fly as well with a mount as the Delyah.
Tarrack—snake/serpent—large serpent with hood, slithers with head partly upright, quick on land (slightly slower than a horse) but faster in water, can seat up to 5 people—Water transport, multiple seats, venom (poison to other creatures, a neuro-toxin, it temporally paralyzes humans and similar species).
Gryphon—Eagle/lion (or other avian/mammal mixture)—avian head and front, with wings, mammalian rear. Tail is mammalian but with stabilizing feathers in the rear, eating habits depend on breed/species, feathers on some species seem metallic and are razor edged—slow on land, used mainly for aerial transport, can seat (comfortably and have flight) 2 people of average size, Dangerous claws and beak, some species have razor edged feathers.
